I am really getting alot out of this class. I use to think that you could get this disease by touching, kissing, coughing, or just by being around a person with AIDS/HIV. It seems that we can now live very productive lives with this disease, which is an awesome change, just take your meds, and take care of yourself.
Did you know that?
There are grants that are given to help African American's who are HIV positive, and are coming out of jail. AIDS serices of Austin, is a non profit organization, that helps people who are infected. It is a non profit organization, who recently won $1.6 million grant dollars to support the project "Fresh Start". The money will help support families, and partners, and it will also allow the non profit to double the number of test that it does everyday.
The grant was provided by the substance Abuse and Mental Health Services is expected to serve over 9000people in the enxt five years. Those who have been incarceratedhave a difficult time rebuilding thier lives. It's hard for them to get employed, which in turn results in doing some of the same things that got them locked up before. And the biggest problem is that they can't get the medicines that they need to treat the HIV disease.
Project transitions is a non profit organization that provides housing and hospice services. Money and addition problems often keep people from finding stability. The grant for 1.6 million will help people afflicted wiht this disease get the help they need. Very nice....

That is amazing that people out there are realizing one of the ways HIV is spread and are trying to take control of it. This grant will allow for so much. Very Excited.
ReplyDeleteWhen the class first started I knew very little, but the thing that I have realized the most is the outcome of a HIV positive person. At the beginning I thought you would be able to notice someone that was positive. Well you can't because of the great medications out there that are allowing individuals to live.
Hey Dolores,
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think that this class change all of us and opened our eyes to the truth.
It's really amazing that African Americans are being helped. This will do good to everyone not just to African Americans. I believe that this will bring change....
Thanks for sharing:)
Dolores,
ReplyDeleteI think everyone can agree that they have learned a lot from this class. It just proves that a good percentage of U.S. citizen's are unaware of what HIV/AIDS really is. It is great to know that funding is being offered by different organiations, becaue this is the first step to getting everyone aware of the seriousness of HIV.
I am glad that you're getting a lot out of this class. I am as well and I hope that everyone can say the same. I have learned so much and have grown as a person.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea about a grant for HIV positive individuals who are coming out of jail. The statistics of people who contract the disease while incarcerated is startling. It is great to know that something is being done to help those infected.
